July 12th, 2001 Bedford, MA Severe Thunderstorm

This was a decent local chase day where for a change the traffic and visibility did not ruin the day! This severe (not supercellular) thunderstorm had nice structure as it traveled a path south east from Lowell, MA through Bedford and then down towards Boston and out over the harbor. The storm had dime sized hail and a nice inflow "beaver tail". Not much compared to the Great Plains storms, but not bad for New England!

Chasing the storm along I-95, as the rear flank passes over the highway.   A look at the overall structure of the storm. A close-up of the beaver tail from near Hanscom AFB.
